General Class Description
Students create vibrant mosaic artwork using colored glass tiles arranged into patterns or images on a base surface. Once designed and glued down, the piece is finished with grout to lock everything in place for a professional mosaic. This project introduces traditional mosaic techniques in a safe, beginner-friendly studio format while still producing a durable, display-quality finished piece.
What Will Students Learn?
Principles of mosaic design (pattern, balance, and spacing).
How to safely handle and arrange small glass pieces.
Basic surface adhesion techniques using mosaic glue.
Grouting and finishing methods used in traditional tile art.
Color theory and composition using mixed materials.
What Will Students Leave With?
Students will create a finished mosaic tile artwork (coaster, trivet, or small wall piece) or a mosaic vase. A sealed, durable art piece suitable for home display that comes with the experience with multi-step, mixed-media explorations.
