Zines! Zines! Zines!

Class:

Want to share your story, your art, your ideas with full creativity? Then zine-making may be for you! Learn the art of the Zine (pronounced “zeen”): do-it-yourself magazines that anyone can make about anything.

What You’ll Learn:

-What a zine is (definition, brief history, and examples)
-How to fold a basic 8 panel zine
-What topic(s) to make their zine: fandom, art, fiction, personal subject, activism, etc.

What You’ll Leave With:

Students will leave the workshop with at least one classic folded zine that is of their own creation and the knowledge of how to make more in the future. If time allows, students can make multiple zines to take home.

Explore the Ancient World
Wednesday, 6:00pm
July 8 – July 29 | Ages 9-12

Class Description:

In this class for 9-12 year olds, students will explore ancient cultures through their art! Learn about the myths that inspired Greek pottery, the mosaics of the Roman baths, the terracotta army of Qin dynasty China, and the elaborate masks of the ancient Mayans. Each class is equal parts history lesson and art project!

What You’ll Learn:

Students will learn about the ancient world and how art is used by archeologists to understand the past.

What You’ll Leave With:

Students will leave with four unique art projects inspired by four different ancient civilizations: the Greeks, the Romans, Qin dynasty China, and the Mayans.

Wildlife Hats
Tuesday, 6:00 pm
July 6 & July 13 | Ages 9-12

Class:

In this fun and energetic 2-week workshop, students will design and create their own wildlife-inspired hat, there will be a few options, transforming a simple base into a unique animal character. Using felt, fabric, and mixed materials, students will explore how to build shapes, add dimension and layer details to represent features like ears, beaks, horns and textures.

What You’ll Learn:

Students will learn how to design and construct a wearable art piece by building shapes, layering materials and using creative details to represent animal features.

What You’ll Leave With:

Students will leave with a wearable wildlife hat that showcases their chosen animal and their creativity in design and construction.

Sleepover-inspired Dreams: Glow & Create
Tuesday, 6:00 pm
July 21 & July 28 | Ages 9-12

Class:

In this cozy, sleepover-inspired 2-week workshop, students will explore imagination and self-expression through glow-in-the-dark and mixed media art. The studio transforms into a relaxed, dimly lit space where students begin with a quick neon drawing warm-up before diving into a main project: creating a layered dream collage (moldboard). Using black paper, gel pens, fabric scraps and collage materials, students will experiment with texture, color and glowing effects to bring their ideas to life.

The session ends with a fun create your own “bedtime story”, where students make their own mini storybook to present their artwork and the imaginative worlds behind it. Students will leave with a one-of-a-kind glowing artwork and a deeper understanding of creative storytelling.

What You’ll Learn:

Students will learn how to use mixed media techniques to layer materials, create mood with color/ light and express imaginative ideas through visual storytelling.

What You’ll Leave With:

Students will leave with a unique glow-inspired mixed media artwork and a creative “story” behind their piece that reflects their imagination and personal expression.

T-shirt Yarn Tote Bags
Monday, 6:00pm
July 6 – July 27 | Ages 13-17

Class Description:

This four-week class invites teens to explore sustainability and creativity by transforming old T-shirts into functional, handmade tote bags. Combining upcycling with beginner-friendly crochet, students will learn how to turn everyday clothing into something both practical and uniquely their own.

What You’ll Learn:

In the first week, participants will learn how to cut and prepare T-shirts into continuous “yarn,” exploring different methods and textures. Week two introduces the basics of crochet, including foundational stitches and how to start a project. In week three, students will begin constructing their tote bags, building confidence as they see their work take shape. By the final week, they’ll complete their bags, add finishing touches like handles or decorative elements, and troubleshoot any remaining steps.

What You’ll Leave With:

By the end, each teen will leave with a durable, eco-friendly tote bag and the knowledge to continue creating on their own.

Paper Collage Storyboarding Workshop
Monday, 6:00 pm
June 15 | Ages 7-10

Class Description:

Students will create a visual story using construction paper collage techniques. They will plan a beginning, middle, and end; design characters and settings; and assemble a storyboard using images instead of words (or with limited text).

What You’ll Learn:

  • Understand basic storytelling structure
  • Create characters and settings using collage
  • Learn cutting, layering, and gluing techniques
  • Organize ideas sequentially
  • Present and reflect on their visual stories

What You’ll Leave With:

Students will leave with the 3 to 4 Paper Collage Storyboards and a stronger understanding of what an art project is from start to finish.
