Ceramics
The Ceramics and Pottery Department at Baker Hunt hosts over 600 students each year, and offers a variety of workshops, 4-week, 8-week, and even private-party classes. Classes are divided into “Wheel” classes and “Hand-building” Classes. In our 10-student wheel studio, students learn how to wedge, center, pull and shape pottery on the wheel (think cups, bowls, plates, pitchers, pots, etc.). In our 12-person hand-building studio, students work with the instructor to learn just about every pottery technique except wheel-throwing: pinch, slab, coil, sculpture, etc. to create functional as well as decorative pottery and more. Students also learn the processes of firing, glazing, and other finishing techniques for their work. It generally takes about 3-weeks for pottery to be fired after the last class meeting; at this time, students are notified and can retrieve their beautiful work from the studio.
