Bring a little island flavor to your kitchen! Experience the warmth, flavor, and rich culinary traditions of Puerto Rico in this hands-on cooking class with Chef Mona, where you will prepare a rich & savory Pollo Guisado (Braised Chicken Stew) , Golden Yellow Rice, and irresistible Tostones.  Mona always brings more than just cooking tips; learn about the connection between food, history, and culture as you prepare this menu that you will want to recreate at home again & again. Discover why these dishes remain favorites at gatherings across the island and throughout the Puerto Rican diaspora.

Menu:

  • Pollo Guisado (A comforting chicken stew that reflects the island’s blend of Spanish, African, and Indigenous Taíno influences)
  • Arroz Amarillo (Puerto Rico’s iconic yellow rice, seasoned with sofrito and spices that are at the heart of countless family recipes)
  • Crispy Tostones (Crispy twice-fried green plantains, a Caribbean staple enjoyed throughout Puerto Rico and a testament to the island’s African and tropical culinary heritage)

Teen Pizza & Sundae Party!
Cooking Class for Ages 12-15
Tuesday, November 17th | 6:00-8:00pm

Get cooking and build kitchen confidence in this hands-on class designed for kids ages 12-15! Chef Mona will teach you to make homemade pizza completely from scratch—dough, sauce, and all—and personalize it with your favorite toppings. Then, satisfy your sweet tooth with a build-your-own sundae bar! Participants will work in pairs but each create their own dishes, so sign up with a friend, or make a new one!

Creamy Southern Grits, Sautéed Shrimp, Pumpkin Bread, & Winter Greens Salad
Join Chef Mona for a hands-on Southern cooking experience featuring creamy cheese grits topped with seasoned sautéed shrimp. Round out the meal with savory pumpkin bread, and a tender winter greens salad with lemon vinaigrette. Along the way, you’ll learn essential techniques and tips for creating these comforting Southern favorites at home. Students work in pairs. Beer & wine available for purchase (cash or Venmo).

Cajun-Creole “Gumbo” Risotto
Cooking Class for Ages 16+

Discover something special with Chef Mona’s Cajun-Creole (“Gumbo”) Risotto, a delicious collaboration of creamy Italian risotto and the deep and comforting flavors of Louisiana cooking. In this hands-on class, Chef Mona will guide you through mastering the art of risotto while exploring the connections between culture, history, and foodways.
You and your cooking partner will prepare a full batch with enough to enjoy in class and take home for another meal. To round out the experience, you’ll also enjoy a simple green salad with lemon vinaigrette, a fresh complement to the risotto’s rich, savory flavors.

Learn the art of fresh pasta from scratch in this hands-on culinary experience with Chef Mona. Students will mix, knead, and roll pasta dough by hand before transforming it into a beautiful finished favorite, Fettuccine Alfredo. Enjoy your handiwork with a crisp salad and easy homemade garlic bread. This class blends technique, texture, and presentation for a restaurant-quality result at home. This meal is vegetarian and perfect for those Meatless Mondays!
