Sewing with Selvages! Zipper Pouch

Class:

Selvage is the tightly woven, “self-finished” edge that runs along the lengthwise sides of a piece of fabric. This class will teach you how to turn your selvages into a fun zippered pouch. This no-waste sewing is a fun and creative way to upcycle your selvages into something useful and unique! Perfect for storing other fiber arts projects or crafts.

**If you have your own sewing machine, please bring it to class! If you do not, one will be provided for you to use!**
**This is a beginner level class**

What You’ll Learn:

How to insert a zipper, how to sew a small pouch, and how to upcycle selvages of fabric.

What You’ll Leave With:

A creative and whimsical Zipper Pouch.

Getting to Know Your Sewing Machine

Class:

This class is for students who want to start sewing but aren’t familiar with using a sewing machine. In the class, we will cover basic use, stitch length, width, and stitch selection, common troubleshooting problems, and how to clean your machine. Students will leave class with a small thread catcher sewing project.

**If you have your own sewing machine, please bring it to class! If you do not, one will be provided for you to use!**
**This is a beginner level class**

What You’ll Learn:

How to wind a bobbin, thread your machine, learn about what different stitches do, stitch length & width adjustment & why we do it, parts of the sewing machine and common troubleshooting  problems while using it, how to clean and maintain your machine, and how to use your machine to make a small project.

What You’ll Leave With:

A small fabric thread catcher and the knowledge of how to use a sewing machine.

Stained Glass: Bird

In this Adult workshop, you discover the basic steps and the tools used in the Stained Glass making process. In a step-by-step instruction, small group learning environment, each person in the class will create your very own individualized stained glass BIRD

What You’ll Learn:

You will learn how to properly use the basic tools of a stained glass artist, and you will learn the FOUR basic steps of the stained glass making process: Glass Cutting, Glass Grinding, Foiling, and Soldering. 

What You’ll Leave With:

By the end of the two hour workshop, you will have learned and experienced first-hand all the steps of how to make a piece of stained glass art, and you will leave with a completed Stained Glass Bird pattern.

Seared Ahi Tuna with Coconut Rice and Cucumber Salad

Chef Leigh will teach you to achieve the perfect crunchy sear in this hands-on class featuring a restaurant-quality Everything-Crusted Ahi Tuna. You’ll learn the technique for achieving a crunchy, savory crust on sushi-grade Ahi using a clever “secret binder” before pairing it with a velvety Coconut Jasmine Rice infused with fresh cilantro. To balance the plate, we’ll toss a crisp Savory Cucumber Salad and whisk together a signature Soy-Honey Dipping Sauce that hits every salty and sweet note. Cooking Class for Ages 16+

Join Chef Lilly for a Night of Big Flavors!
Chef Lilly is taking over the kitchen to show you how to make the country’s most famous comfort foods. You’ll chop up the garlicky “liquid gold” Chimichurri Sauce, then master the cast iron skillet to achieve a Perfectly Crusted Steak to pour it over. Paired with Crispy Oven Roasted Potatoes with Basil-Olive-Butter, it’s a flavor explosion you won’t want to miss. Finish off the night with a batch of Alfajores Cookies—buttery, crumbly perfection, filled with decadent Dulce de Leche and dusted in powdered sugar. Adventures in Quilting: Star Pop Quilt Top
Tuesday, 6:00 p.m.
June 2 – July 28
Ages 16+

***No Classes The Week Of June 29th – July 5th***

Class:

In this beginner class, we will make the Star Pop quilt pattern in the *small throw size* (52″x60″).

The instructor will teach students several tips and tricks to make cutting and sewing efficient and accurate, taking the stress out of the quilting process and allowing creativity to flow. This is a traditionally pieced quilt top. Students will learn to prepare fabric, cut, and piece a finished quilt top.

*Note: the finished object is the QUILT TOP, which is not a finished quilt. For a quilt to be finished, it has a middle batting layer and a back layer that are all sewn together. Students will leave with resources to get their quilt top quilted outside of class.*

**If you have your own sewing machine, please bring it to class! If you do not, one will be provided for you to use!**
**This is a beginner level class**

What You’ll Learn:

Students will learn how to prepare fabric for quilting, including how to cut, mark, sort, and label quilt pieces. Students will learn traditional quilt piecing, and the instructor will share techniques to increase efficiency in order to take the stress out of quilting. Students will learn to effectively manage different pieces, their time, and how to effectively read a quilting pattern.

What You’ll Leave With:

Students will leave with a small throw size (52″x60″) quilt top that is ready to be quilted together with batting and backing fabric. Students will be given resources on where and how to get their quilt top finished for use.

Baker Hunt provides all the standard tools to create the featured project, and provides limited material fabric for the project.

Students will need to purchase:

  • 11 coordinating Fat Quarters –OR– forty two 10″ squares (called a layer cake)
  • 1.5 yards contrast fabric for the stars

 

Open Studio (Watercolor, Pastel, Acrylic) Mondays, 12:00 pm June 1 – July 27 | 16-99+

***No Classes The Week Of June 29th – July 5th***

Class:

Explore the medium of your choice in this 8-week open studio class. Students will be given individual attention on the subject of their choosing. Familiarity with the medium is required and no demonstrations will be given during this class. Students of all levels are welcome in this open-studio class.

What You’ll Learn:

In a group learning environment, you will be working on your own current self-pace artwork, and will have the opportunity for one-on-one guidance, feedback on your artwork, feedback guidance including color mixing, brush techniques, and drawing, and inspiration form the instructor.

What You’ll Leave With:

By the end of each class meeting you will have more confidence in the progression of your current artwork.
