Beginner Sewing
Saturday, 9:00 am
April 18 – May 9 | Ages 9-12

Class:

Discover the wonders of using a sewing machine and the magic of creating something new and unique!

Students will focus on the “ins and outs” of working with a sewing machine from threading, to winding a bobbin, to sewing with a proper seam allowance, and to troubleshooting common machine issues, while making some creative and fun sewing projects.

What You’ll Learn:

In this class fun 4 week class, your child will learn how to use a sewing machine safely and properly. They will then  learn to craft a exciting beginning sewing projects such as: Simple Thread Catcher, Fold-up Wallet, and a Hemingway Zipper Pouch!

*No sewing experience required.

What You’ll Leave With:

Participants will get to take home the three projects listed above, a new found knowledge of how to use a sewing machine and a new passion for the fiber arts, and materials list written by the class instructor home to continue creating more, year after year!

Dresden Plate Table Runner
Wednesday, 6:00 p.m.
March 25 – May 6
Ages 16+

Class:

This class is an 7 week class that will teach students how to create their own quilted Dresden plate table runner.  This class is designed for beginner-intermediate sewists with no prior experience necessary.

*** The Instructor encourages students that if they own their own sewing machine, they may bring it to class to work on their project on a machine they are more familiar with. Baker Hunt still provides sewing machines for students who don’t own a machine and/or students who prefer not to transport their personal machine from home.***

What You’ll Learn:

Students will begin by cutting the fabric, learning the machine, sewing the Dresden blades together before appliqueing them to a background piece. Finally, students will learn to baste and quilt their own table runner on a domestic sewing machine and how to apply binding by hand or machine.

What You’ll Leave With:

At the end of the class, students will have create a unique and personalized table runner.

Baker Hunt provides all the standard tools to create the featured project, and provides limited material fabric for the project.

Students are encouraged to bring their own fabric material/fabric pattern to class since sewing project is personal and a form of self expression.

Students Will Need to Purchase/ Bring:

  • Students will need “5 fat quarters” of fabric, which could be found at a local quilt shop such as:
    • Around the Corner
    • Bessie’s Quilting Niche
    • Make.Do
    • Silk Road Textiles.

Teen Sewing: Crosstown Crescent Bag
Tuesdays, 6:00 p.m.
March 17 – May 5
Ages 13-15

Class:

The crosstown crescent bag class is an 8-week class where participants will create their own crossbody bag. This class is designed for beginner sewist interested in zippers & bags.
***Instructor Rachel Robertson has written permission from pattern author to teach this class, under the condition that each student purchase the pattern so the author benefits as deserved.***

(Participants will need to have this specific bag pattern purchased for class.)

*** The Instructor encourages students that if they own their own sewing machine, they may bring it to class to work on their project on a machine they are more familiar with. Baker Hunt still provides sewing machines for students who don’t own a machine and/or students who prefer not to transport their personal machine from home.***

What You’ll Learn:

This bag class will teach participants how to quilt two layers of fabric together, insert a zipper, create an interior pocket, insert a lining, work with nylon webbing, attach bag fasteners, and attach bias binding.

What You’ll Leave With:

At the end of the class, students will have created a unique and personalized crossbody zipper bag.

Crochet With Rachel !!!
Friday, 6:00 p.m.
February 20th
Ages: 9-12

Class:

Discover the wonders of Crocheting and the magic of creating something new and unique!

Students will focus on learning the basic tools and learning the steps of a Chain Stitch and a Single Crochet to create a piece of crochet.

What You’ll Learn:

In this fun evening one-day workshop, students will learn the simple chain stitch and how to single crochet to make a small, simple project. Students will learn how to read a crochet pattern and have the foundations needed to continue with crochet at home.

What You’ll Leave With:

Participants will get to take home a small piece of crochet they learned to do in class and leave with the knowledge of how to crochet and what is needed to create future projects at home!
