TOURS | Community Art Show – Baker Hunt and DBL Law

Registration is Required. – Tickets are Free.

Baker Hunt along with DBL Law is pleased to present a community exhibition highlighting the work of Baker Hunt artists, instructors, and friends. DBL will showcase over 45 pieces of artwork on its 1st and 4th floors. You will be greeted by a docent upon your arrival. The 30-minute tour will include a brief history of both organizations, a look into the thought process of the presented artwork, and a guided tour of the facility showing all represented artworks.
Please make sure you are registering for the correct date and time. Meet at the front glass doors of DBL – 109 E 4th St, Covington, KY 41011. Must arrive on time, if tour leaves without you, you have missed the showing for this time. Each tour lasts between 30-40 mins.

 

PARKING Visitors with disability hangers or license plates are invited to park immediately in front of the DBL office building, where there are designated reserved spaces. For all other visitors, we recommend parking at one of the following nearby convenient locations:

  1. 381 Greenup Street surface parking lot immediately across 4th Street from The Covington Yard (the northwest corner of 4th& Greenup Streets).  The entrance is on the left immediately after crossing 4th Our office building entrance is a short one-half block west.  We recommend crossing to the south side of 4th Street at the pedestrian crossing at 4th and Greenup Streets.
  2. The City of Covington Midtown parking garage at the southwest corner of 5th Street and Scott Boulevard.  Our office building is a short one and one-half blocks northeast of the garage.  We recommend crossing to the east side of Scott Boulevard at the pedestrian crossing at 5th Street and Scott Boulevard.
  3. The Kenton County Parking Garage (attached to the Kenton County Justice Center) at 220 Madison Avenue.  Our office building is a short two blocks southeast of the garage.  We recommend walking south on Madison Avenue, then turn left on the south side of 4th Street.
  4. Metered street parking along Court Street and Park Avenue immediately to the north of our building.

This workshop is perfect for an adult family get together, date night activity, or an event help you relax and craft something unique while spending some quality time with good friends.

What You’ll Experience:

You will paint the predetermined acrylic image on canvas in an instructor lead step-by-step group environment.

Due to the presence of alcohol, this is an adult (21 and up) only workshop. You will have a choice of either wine and/or beer from our Baker Hunt beer and wine list. There is a two drink limit per person, and outside alcohol is not permitted. Non-alcohol option are available and a snack tray is provided.

What You’ll Leave With:

Each attendee will leave with a beautiful, custom, acrylic on canvas copy of the selected images by the end of the workshop.

Beginner Oil Painting

Be introduced to the wonderful world of oil painting!

In this class, we will explore the basics of painting with oil based paints.

What You’ll Learn:

In a step-by-step group learning environment, students will learn new painting techniques and topics such as the importance of drawing, (describing forms in space); one point perspective; composition; basic color theory; organizing a palette; color mixing techniques; choosing paint brushes; brush care; how to choose oil paints ; and more!

What You’ll Leave With:

By the end of the course while far from being comprehensive , the goal is that this class will help students to venture into the world of oil painting  with confidence and the urge to explore on their own path through the use of oil paints.

Painting in the Style of: Sisley “Orvann et le Canal du Loing en Hiver”

Paint in the style of Alfred Sisley! Complete the picture “Orvann et le Canal du Loing en Hiver” in the oil medium. Walk step-by-step through the creative process with the instructor.  Learn all the tips and trick of using oils in understanding the medium of oil paint on canvas. All skill levels are welcome!

What You’ll Learn:

In a small step-by-step group learning environment, students will learn new painting techniques such as monotone underpainting, mixing the correct colors on a palette, and blending and glazing techniques to help achieve a proficient finished product. Some drawing skills will be taught, but previous drawing experience would be helpful, but not required.

What You’ll Leave With:

By the end of each class meeting you will have more confidence and knowledge of using Oils, and you will have a complete copy of the featured artwork.

Oil Painting Portraits

Explore the elegance of oil painting as you navigate the understanding of how to paint portraits. This is a perfect class to best understand how to construct a facial portrait on canvas and learn all the tips and trick of using oils in understanding the medium of oil paint on canvas. All skill levels are welcome!

What You’ll Learn:

In a step-by-step group learning environment, students will learn new painting techniques such as monotone underpainting, mixing the correct colors on a palette, and blending and glazing techniques to help achieve a crisp photo-like finished product. Some drawing skills will be taught, but previous drawing experience would be helpful, but not required.

What You’ll Leave With:

By the end of the course you will have painted a complete oil portrait from a person reference photo provided by the student, the confidence and knowledge of working in the medium of your oil painting, and the skill set of understanding facial anatomy.

  • When choosing the reference image, consider some of the following help suggestions to help you select the perfect composition: The angle the face is in, the clarity of the photo, is there big range in value contrast within the face, making sure there are no extreme foreshortening effects anywhere, etc.)

 

  • If you bring a couple of reference photos to the first class, the instructor can help you in your selection process if you need assistance. (A copy may be printed for you convenience.)

Looking for more studio time to work on your oil paintings? Incorporate feedback into your artwork, including color mixing, brush techniques, and drawing.  Students of all levels are welcome in this open-studio class. 

What You’ll Learn:

In a group learning environment, you will be working on your own current self-pace artwork, and will have the opportunity for one-on-one guidance, feedback on your artwork, feedback guidance including color mixing, brush techniques, and drawing, and inspiration form the instructor.

What You’ll Leave With:

By the end of each class meeting you will have more confidence in the progression of your current artwork.
