Illuminated Fantasy Bestiary
Saturdays, 2:00 pm
October 24 – November 14 | Ages 16+

Class:

In this 4-week class, students will learn how to make a faux illuminated manuscript page that includes an illustration of a fantasy creature or animal of their choosing, a brief description written in gothic blackletter of the creature featuring an illuminated letter, and plenty of imaginative doodles and decorations in the margins!

What You’ll Learn:

Attendees will learn how to make a faux illuminated manuscript page by imitating the drawing style of medieval manuscripts (namely the Aberdeen Bestiary), use colored ink to bring their illustrations to life, basic blackletter calligraphy, and how to decorate a large illuminated letter.

What You’ll Leave With:

You will leave with an illuminated manuscript page of their own design, the skills and knowledge to create art in the specific stylized way of medieval illuminated manuscripts, and a brief knowledge of the history of the art form.
