Oil Painting Fantasy Portraits

Class:

This portrait class is going to Pandora! During this 8-week course, we will paint a portrait of Jake Sully from the movie “Avatar.”

Explore the elegance of oil painting as you navigate the understanding of how to paint portraits. This is a perfect class to best understand how to construct a facial portrait on canvas and learn all the tips and trick of using oils in understanding the medium of oil paint on canvas. All skill levels are welcome!

What You’ll Learn:

In a step-by-step group learning environment, students will learn new painting techniques such as monotone underpainting, mixing the correct colors on a palette, and blending and glazing techniques to help achieve a crisp photo-like finished product. Some drawing skills will be taught, but previous drawing experience would be helpful, but not required.

What You’ll Leave With:

By the end of the course you will have painted a complete oil portrait of Jake Sully from Avatar, the confidence and knowledge of working in the medium of your oil painting, and the skill set of understanding facial anatomy.

Beginner Oil Painting
Mondays , 3:00 pm
June 1 – July 27 | Ages 16-99+

Class:

Be introduced to the wonderful world of oil painting! We will discuss the value of underpainting, and the difference that a color vs a monochrome underpainting can make. We will study the elements of how to choose a good composition, and will discuss seeing and painting light and shadow.

What You’ll Learn:

In a step-by-step group learning environment, students will learn new painting techniques such as monotone underpainting, mixing the correct colors on a palette, and blending and glazing techniques to help achieve a proficient finished product. Some drawing skills will be taught, but previous drawing experience would be helpful, but not required.

What You’ll Leave With:

By the end of the course you will have painted a complete oil paint of a still life or from the class reference photo, and the confidence and knowledge of working in the medium of oil painting.

Looking for more studio time to work on your oil paintings? Incorporate feedback into your artwork, including color mixing, brush techniques, and drawing.  Students of all levels are welcome in this open-studio class. 

What You’ll Learn:

In a group learning environment, you will be working on your own current self-pace artwork, and will have the opportunity for one-on-one guidance, feedback on your artwork, feedback guidance including color mixing, brush techniques, and drawing, and inspiration form the instructor.

What You’ll Leave With:

By the end of each class meeting you will have more confidence in the progression of your current artwork.

2-D Open Studio
Friday, 12:00 pm
July 10 – July 31 | Ages 16-99+

Class:

The class will focus on identifying students’ individual proclivities in art making, then emphasizing those in the work at hand of the medium of your choice. Mark making, drawing, composition, color, material handling, and intent will be addressed. Every artist has a ‘signature’ in their work; this class will help you discover yours.  Individual attention with each student in a shared studio is the focus.

This class serves as a time to use our studio get some additional work done on your artwork from another classes, use campus for some plein air working, or get some feed back from fellow artists, students, and Craig the instructor. Students will be given individual attention on the subject of their choosing. Familiarity with the medium is required. Students of all levels are welcome in this open-studio class.

All skill levels welcomed! (There will be a group critique to conclude the class.)

Walk step-by-step through the creative process with the instructor.  Learn all the tips and trick of using oils in understanding the medium of oil paint on canvas. All skill levels are welcome!

In this class, we will explore the basics of painting with oil based paints.

What You’ll Learn:

In a step-by-step group learning environment, students will learn new painting techniques and topics such as the importance of drawing, (describing forms in space); one point perspective; composition; basic color theory; organizing a palette; color mixing techniques; choosing paint brushes; brush care; how to choose oil paints ; and more!

What You’ll Leave With:

By the end of the course while far from being comprehensive , the goal is that this class will help students to venture into the world of oil painting  with confidence and the urge to explore on their own path through the use of oil paints.
