General Class Description

Students will create elegant, embossed designs using heavy foil sheets and simple embossing techniques. By pressing designs into the foil with embossing tools, they will create raised textures and patterns before adding color.

What Will Students Learn?

The basics of embossing techniques.
How to create raised and recessed designs.
Pattern-making and texture creation.
Safe use of embossing tools.

What Will Students Leave With?

Students will leave with 1-3 embossed designs as they build an understanding of basic embossing techniques, also taking home a durable handmade bookmark that can be used or gifted.

Want to share your story, your art, your ideas, or your family recipes with full creativity? Then zine-making may be for you! Learn the art of the Zine (pronounced “zeen”): do-it-yourself magazines that anyone can make about anything.

What You’ll Learn:

-What a zine is (definition, brief history, and examples)
-How to fold a basic 8 panel zine
-What topic(s) to make their zine: fandom, art, fiction, personal subject, activism, etc.

What You’ll Leave With:

Students will leave the workshop with at least one classic folded zine that is of their own creation and the knowledge of how to make more in the future. If time allows, students can make multiple zines to take home.

Beaded Corn/Maize for Fall

General Class Description

Celebrate the fall season by creating colorful beaded corn decorations using pipe cleaners and pony beads. Students will thread beads onto pipe cleaners to resemble ears of Indian corn, then twist the ends to create realistic husks. This simple craft is great for practicing fine motor skills while making a festive autumn decoration.

What Will Students Learn?

Fine motor skills through bead threading.
Pattern-making and color coordination.
Basic shaping techniques using pipe cleaners.
How to create a seasonal decoration from simple craft materials.

What Will Students Leave With?

Students will leave with 2-3 completed handmade, beaded corn decorations that can be displayed with festive arrangements or used as an ornament.

Collaged Mini Magnets

General Class Description

Design a set of personalized mini refrigerator magnets using wooden Polaroid-style frames and collage techniques. Students will decorate each frame with patterned paper, magazine clippings, washi tape, stickers, pressed flowers, and other embellishments to create miniature works of art. These charming magnets can hold notes, display small photos, or simply brighten any magnetic surface with handmade creativity.

What Will Students Learn?

Basic collage and mixed-media art techniques.
Composition, layering, and color coordination.
How to use decoupage medium to create a durable finish.
Creative storytelling through miniature artwork.
Proper assembly of functional refrigerator magnets.

What Will Students Leave With?

Students will create a set of 1-2 handmade Polaroid-style refrigerator magnets while gaining experience working with mixed-media collage techniques. Their work becomes functional home decor that can also be given as thoughtful handmade gifts.

Jellyfish Wall Hangings

Need a little (or big) something to decorate your bedroom? Come join us as we create a jellyfish wall hanging for any room, using canvas and creativity. We will incorporate fun materials into this project, including round canvas, translucent ribbons, recycled buttons/jems/jewels, and more! These jellyfish will truly bedazzle and delight!

What Will Students Learn?

How to use round canvas in creative way, making room decor using recycled materials, and various methods of combining/attaching materials. and, of course, strengthening your creativity by making something unique to your vision.

A fun, personalized jellyfish canvas to hang on any wall.

Shrinky Dink Keychains

General Class Description

Students design custom keychains using shrink plastic sheets (“Shrink Dinks”). You will draw original artwork, color it, cut it out, then heat it so the plastic shrinks into a thick, durable charm. Once cooled, each piece is turned into a keychain using jump rings and key rings. This is a fast-paced, highly customizable craft that produces professional-looking results.

What Will Students Learn?

How shrink plastic works through heat transformation.
Basic illustration and design scaling (drawing larger before shrinking).
Coloring techniques using markers or colored pencils on plastic.
Safe handling of heat tools (oven or heat gun with supervision).
Jewelry assembly using jump rings and keychains.

What Will Students Leave With?

Students will leave with finished shrink plastic keychains using their own custom designs. They will be wearable or gift-able accessories while leaving with an understanding of how materials change with heat as well as basic jewelry-making skills.

Uplifting Indoor/Outdoor Signs!

General Class Description

Come join us in a community gathering/class to learn how to make plaques or signs with uplifting messages on them to hang anywhere, indoor or out! You will have the options of using a variety of materials like canvas, plywood, scrap wood, wire/yarn, acrylic paint and paint markers, and decorative adornments. Be and display the positive message you would like to create!

***Anyone under the age of 14 needs to be accompanied by an adult

Work in various art mediums while learning how to practice mindfulness.  Begin class with a guided meditation, followed by an art project using a different medium each week. Learn how to practice mindfulness not only in your artmaking, but in your everyday life.

You will learn mindfulness techniques to incorporate in your everyday life, how to apply these techniques into your art practice, and beginning skills in various art mediums.

By the end of each class meeting you will leave refreshed with a better mental and physical well-being, basic skills and knowledge in various art mediums, and skills to help with anxiety and stress.

Teen Open Studio

Class Description:

Express yourself and let your creativity run free! In this open studio, students can explore the art media and subjects of their choice with as much (or as little) teacher guidance as is desired/needed. If you are putting together a portfolio for an application of any kind, this class can help in that as well! Materials available include pencils, colored pencils, pastels, art markers, watercolor, acrylic, collage, air-dry clay, and more! Optional prompts and demos will vary week to week for inspiration, such as a still-life set-up, art magazines/books, and graphic novels/comic books.

Students may keep a portfolio at the studio for ongoing projects.
