Intermediate Landscape Drawing
Monday, 6:00 pm
July 6 – July 27 | Ages 16+

Class:

This class is designed to serve as a follow-up to “Introduction to Drawing Landscapes”, but this class may also suit the needs of students with intermediate and advanced drawing skills who have not yet taken the Intro course, but who would enjoy learning about landscapes. This course will build upon foundational drawing techniques while giving students an opportunity for open-studio time to work on personal drawing projects and receive 1:1 feedback from the instructor.

What You’ll Learn:

Students will continue to build upon their drawing skills, focusing on landscape scenes. Students will expand their knowledge of core elements in landscape drawing, such as color theory, atmospheric perspective, value, and composition. Students will work in various mediums, including graphite, charcoal, and colored pencil, with an emphasis on colored pencil. When possible, students will spend some of their class time sketching outside on Baker Hunt’s beautiful campus!

What You’ll Leave With:

Students will leave with increased knowledge and confidence in their landscape drawing skills– which are foundational art techniques that can be applied to a wide variety of art mediums and subjects!

Supply List

One 24-count set of Prismacolor Premier Colored Pencils (quality varies considerably between colored pencil brands; Prismacolor is recommended: Link to purchase).

Two Prismacolor Premier Colorless Blender Pencils: Link to purchase

– Personal Reference Photo

– One 8 in. x 10 in or 9 in. x 12 in. pad of Bristol Board/Drawing Paper (Strathmore Bristol Board preferred, with vellum surface)

– One handheld pencil sharpener

– One rubber eraser (white polymer eraser recommended)

– One kneaded eraser

Optional Supplies:

– Pencils (2H, HB, 2B, 4B, 6B, 8B) (Baker Hunt has graphite pencils, but likely not a complete set for every student).

– Graphite supplies are provided by Baker Hunt, but you can bring your own if you have them.

– Personal drawing board (Baker Hunt has them, but some students like to bring their own).

– Charcoal supplies are provided by Baker Hunt, but you can bring your own if you have them.

 

 

Intermediate Watercolor
Tuesdays, 3:00 pm
June 2 – July 28
Ages 16-99+

Class:

Whether taking your watercolor to the next level or brushing up on skills, Intermediate Watercolor is an exciting foray into the medium. We will explore a new sampling of materials from paper to paint, to brushes. We will have the opportunity to try our hand at new subjects, such as but not limited to animals, portraits and mixed media. We will experience the process of taking a watercolor from preliminary sketch to finished painting. You won’t want to miss this new venture into this expressive and versatile artform.

What You’ll Learn:

In a group learning environment, you will learn more involved tips and techniques of using the medium of watercolor. You will have the opportunity for one-on-one guidance, and inspiration form the instructor.

What You’ll Leave With:

By the end of each class meeting you will have a more understanding of how use watercolor in your own artworks. After each class meeting, you will have learned a new watercolor application.

2-D Open Studio

The class will focus on identifying students’ individual proclivities in art making, then emphasizing those in the work at hand of the medium of your choice. Mark making, drawing, composition, color, material handling, and intent will be addressed. Every artist has a ‘signature’ in their work; this class will help you discover yours.  Individual attention with each student in a shared studio is the focus.

This class serves as a time to use our studio get some additional work done on your artwork from another classes, use campus for some plein air working, or get some feed back from fellow artists, students, and Craig the instructor. Students will be given individual attention on the subject of their choosing. Familiarity with the medium is required. Students of all levels are welcome in this open-studio class.

Class:

Join us at Baker Hunt and enhance your new passion of learning how to draw by exploring more advance drawing methods as you enhance your skills as an illustrator through our quality instruction.

What You’ll Learn:

You will be introduced to new drawling techniques such one, two and three-point perspective, grid techniques, atmospheric perspective, applying dynamic lighting values to your compositions.. You will have the opportunity for one-on-one guidance, and inspiration from the instructor.

What You’ll Leave With:

By the end of each class meeting you will have a more understanding and confidence of how of how to draw. After each of the four class meeting, you will have learned a new drawing application.

Intermediate Handbuilding
Tuesdays, 6:00 pm
June 9 – July 28 | Ages 16-99+

Class:

Explore the magic of clay as you learn the uniquely expressive qualities of clay when you develop more advanced handbuilding techniques from previous handbuilding classes, to create both functional and sculptural work. Students will explore advanced pinching, coiling, slab making, and surface alteration as they work on teacher-led projects and practices. Come join us and create your next favorite fictional piece or your new favorite piece of home décor!

What You’ll Learn:

In a group learning environment, you will learn step-by-step instructions to develop more in-depth hand-building techniques including pinching, coiling, slab-making., unique shaping techniques, and surface manipulation to create functional and/or sculptural ceramic projects designed by the instructor.

*It is preferred that students have previously take a beginning handbuilding course before rolling, or have previous clay working experience.*

***(Students are required to follow the instructor’s curriculum. Only work produced from that curriculum will be fired.)***

What You’ll Leave With:

Depending on the disciplinary skill of the student, a student may leave with 7-9 completed pieces of pottery from 25lb bag of clay.

(Students will submit glazed works for final firing on the last class of the session. Students will be contacted, via email, once their pottery has finished firing and available for pick up on a later date)

Create still life’s and landscapes using a photo reference of their choosing. Expand your skills through demonstrations and personal instruction.

In a group learning environment, you will be working on your own current self-pace artwork, and will have the opportunity for one-on-one guidance, feedback on your artwork, drawing techniques, and inspiration from the instructor.

What You’ll Leave With:

By the end of each class meeting you will have more confidence in the progression of your current artwork.

Thursdays, 6:00pm
June 4 – July 30 | Ages 16-99+

Class:

Create challenging functional, decorative, and sculptural forms using the pottery wheel. Develop various throwing techniques introduced from previous beginning-level throwing classes.

What You’ll Learn:

In a small group learning environment, you will learn step-by-step instructions to improve existing wheel-throwing skills, create more advanced forms, and explore advanced glazing methods by working on teacher-led projects and practices. With these new skills, you will learn how to throw the three basic forms on a potter’s wheel such as: plates, lidded forms, throwing larger forms, more unique shaping techniques, and surface manipulation.

We prefer that students have taken a couple beginner wheel-throwing classes before registering for this class.

***(Students are required to follow the instructor’s curriculum. Only work produced from that curriculum will be fired.)***

What You’ll Leave With:

Class:

Take your acrylic painting skills to the next level while reinforcing the basics.  You’ll explore involve tips and technique to help bring your acrylic painting come to life! In this 8-week course you’ll receive insightful one-on-one attention with the instructor to help you along in achieving your goals.

What You’ll Learn:

In a group learning environment, you will learn more involved tips and techniques of using the medium of acrylics. We will focus on color mixing, composition, blending, and rendering. You will have the opportunity for one-on-one guidance, and inspiration from the instructor.

What You’ll Leave With:

By the end of each class meeting you will have a more understanding of how use acrylics in your own artworks. After each class meeting, you will have learned a new acrylic application.
