Illuminated Poetry

Class:

Launch into spring with this workshop on seasonal poetry writing! Learn to write your very own spring-inspired poems and create beautiful, illuminated illustrations to captivate your readers.

What You’ll Learn:

Students will learn and practice skills fundamental to creating original poetry, especially rhyme and rhythm. A brief history of illuminated manuscripts will be taught, with an opportunity to build drawing skills inspired by these historic texts.

What You’ll Leave With:

Students will leave with an original springtime poem and an outline for beautiful corresponding illustrations inspired by illuminated manuscripts.

Zines for Teens
Thursday, 6:00 pm
May 7 | Ages 13-17

Class:

Want to share your story, your art, your ideas with full creativity? Then zine-making may be for you! Learn the art of the Zine (pronounced “zeen”): do-it-yourself magazines that anyone can make about anything.

What You’ll Learn:

-What a zine is (definition, brief history, and examples)
-How to fold a basic 8 panel zine
-What topic(s) to make their zine: fandom, art, fiction, personal subject, activism, etc.

What You’ll Leave With:

Students will leave the workshop with at least one classic folded zine that is of their own creation and the knowledge of how to make more in the future. If time allows, students can make multiple zines to take home.

Illuminated Fantasy Bestiary
Friday, 6:30 pm

Inspired by the upcoming Covington Convention event: CONington: A Celebration of Tabletop on APRIL  24th through APRIL 26TH, come join us at Baker Hunt the following weekend for workshops inspired by the themes of the convention!

This entertaining workshop keeps the festivities going from the convention by having attendees create their own Illuminated Manuscript Page, depicting a mythical creature.

This workshop is perfect for an family get together, date night activity, or an event help you relax and craft something unique while spending some quality time with good friends while learning a new skill!

What You’ll Discover:

Students will learn how to make a faux illuminated manuscript page that includes an illustration of a fantasy creature or animal of their choosing, they will elegantly write a brief description of the creature featuring an illuminated letter, and plenty of imaginative doodles and decorations in the margins!

What You’ll Learn:

You will learn how to make a faux illuminated manuscript page by imitating the drawing style of medieval manuscripts (namely the Aberdeen Bestiary), use colored ink to bring their illustrations to life, and learn to create basic blackletter calligraphy to adorn the first sentence of their Bestiary.

What You’ll Leave With:

Attendees will leave with a unique and custom illuminated manuscript page of their own design, a brief history of the art form, and leave with the skills and knowledge to create art in the specific stylized way of medieval illuminated manuscripts.

Fantasy Camp
5-Days | July 13th – July 17th
9:00am-3:00pm | Ages 9 to 12

CAMP Theme:

This camp focuses on the magical, the mystical, the mysterious, the whimsical, the imaginative, and the fanciful. Where the camper’s endless creative possibilities are only limited by their vast imagination! From Dragons to Fairies, castles to dark forest, and from brave heroes and heroines to sinister dark kings and queens, your imaginative child will learn to illustrate, sculpt, and bring their fantasies to life.

What You’ll Discover:

Transport yourself to a far away land where anything and everything fanciful is possible! Your fun and excitement you will have is only limited by the strength of your imagination. In this week-long camp, youth will work through various individual and group projects to develop an understanding for using pencils, ink, art-markers, charcoal, water colors, sculpture techniques and more! Learn to draw and sculpt mythical creatures while making friends this summer. You’ll study mythical folklore from different cultures and will be able to create your own.

What You’ll Create:

In this camp, you will create fun projects such as build fairy houses, create dragon eye jewelry, paper knight helmets, book nook diorama, sculpting mythical creature figurines, study different cultural myths and folk lore, wizard and witch staff making, and natural material art making.

Superhero Camp
5-Days | July 6th – July 10th

CAMP Theme:

This camp focuses on everything Superhero, comic book/strip related, and to help increase the campers ability to draw and illustrate and create their own superhero.

What You’ll Discover:

Excelsior! Enter an imaginative world of good superheroes prevailing over evil villains as you create your very own crime fighter on the pages of you comic book and canvas! Learn to illustrate with pro tips to create life within your super illustrations. It is the perfect camp for imaginative youth who love superheroes and love to draw.

What You’ll Create:

In this camp, you will create fun projects such as creating your own superhero. Complete with background story, list of super powers, and archrivals. Mask making, cape making, figure sculpting and posing, comic illustration pencil, markers, and ink, story boards, and so much more!

Ink & Inspiration Camp
5-Days | June 1st – June 5th
9:00am-3:00pm | Ages 10 to 14

CAMP Theme:

Focus on 2D media created with pencil, ink, charcoal.

What You’ll Discover:

If your artist is serious about learning, sign up so they can explore these deceptively simple media to build a strong foundation for artistic success! In this week-long camp, youth will work through various individual and group projects to develop an understanding for using pencils, ink, and art-markers to their highest potential. Techniques in drawing the human figure, objects in still-life, perspective drawing and more while learning about the many different types of pencils available to artists. Explore ink as a medium to enhance your drawings, try your hand at calligraphy, and more! Finally, explore the versatility of artist-markers for adding color to drawings.

What You’ll Create:

In this camp, you will create fun projects such as letter making and calligraphy, still life’s, landscapes and out door sketches, speed drawing, blind contour drawing, laying multiple mediums (pen, ink, makers), and so much more!

CAMP Theme:

This camp focuses on the interesting world of entomology! The study of insects, focusing on their biology, behavior, and the environment in which they live in.

What You’ll Discover:

Ever wonder how a cricket chirps? Why a spider has 8 legs? How many legs does a centipedes really have? Or why do insect have so many eyes? This is the camp for you! Explore and discover the amazing lives of insects in this week long camp, where you learn about insects and their habitats, create fun bug artworks, explore the campus ground for native species of insects, and learn to become a junior bug catcher and watcher!

What You’ll Create:

In this camp, you will create fun projects such as bug scientific drawings, build your own bug terrarium, paper stained glass butterflies, moth mobiles, glow in the dark lightening bug studies, and so much more!

What You’ll Discover:

Venture back in time where the world was young and dinosaurs ruled over the prehistoric world! Learn all about dinosaurs in this fun filled week long class as you create amazing and fun works of art.

What You’ll Create:

In this camp, you will create fun projects such as creating your own dinosaur, art about dinosaur facts, identify dinosaur fossils, make your own dino fossil, and so much more!

Da’ Vinci Drawing Camp
5-Days | July 6th – July 10th
9:00am-3:00pm | Ages 9 to 12

CAMP Theme:

Campers will learn about the elements of art and design when creating 2-D art, and will get exposure of different drawing mediums such as pencil, pen & ink, charcoal, and markers.

What You’ll Discover:

Enhance the drawing skills of your young budding artist as they explore the elements of art and the principles of design when focus on developing their illustration skills. In this week long camp, activities will include covering a variety of drawing  materials and they will learn all about how to bring their drawing to life. Learning to use techniques such as pointillism, one & two point perspective, lightening and shading, and how to create dynamic compositions.

What You’ll Create:

In this camp, you will create fun projects such as perspective drawing, pointillism, charcoal rendering, using art markers to create value and contrast, still-life drawing, figure and posing studies, and so much more!

5-Days | June 1st – June 5th
9:00am-3:00pm | Ages 9 to 12

CAMP Theme:

Campers will learn about the elements of art and design when creating 2-D art, and will get exposure of different painting mediums; Acrylic, Watercolor, Oil Paint, etc.

What You’ll Discover:

Enhance the skills of your young budding artist as they explore the elements of art and the principles of design when they study the grand masters of the 2-D painting world. In this week long camp, activities will include covering a variety of drawing and painting materials and they will learn all about the different and historical influences of past famous grand master painters, such as Monet, Cézanne, Van Gough, Gauguin, and many more!

What You’ll Create:

In this camp, you will create fun projects such as watercolor, acrylic, and oil painting, charcoal rendering, impressionistic painting, abstract painting, figure and posing studies, and so much more!
