The Baker Hunt Gardens have stood for over a century, inviting generation after generation of community members to step away from the pavement and bustle. Lovingly maintained by a group of volunteers named “The Garden Club,” these grounds offer much to our neighborhood and community, and have asked nothing in return. But like all life, plants grow up, they mature, and they eventually come to their natural end. Our gardens are maturing, our trees are over a century old, and its time to start planting for the future. Baker Hunt is asking our community and our neighbors to join in and help us grow our gardens so future generations can enjoy the same “urban oasis” we love today.

Garden Talk Series: Planting for Pollinators

Class:

Learn how to plant a garden for pollinators, be it in the sun or shade.

What You’ll Learn:

Sire evaluation, soil prep, plant selection and arrangement, and garden care. How to design a winter garden and a soft landing garden.

What You Leave With:

A clear understanding of how to plant a garden that will be a haven for pollinators and birds. We will review design ideas, designers to follow-study, books to read and of course great plants to consider.

“Smith co-taught a UC-DAAP course (Herbaceous plants and the New Perennial Movement), has spoken for many garden clubs, The Midwest Native Plant Society, Tri-State green industry conference, and the Cincinnati Zoo and Botanical Gardens (Native Plant Symposium) to name a few.
Some of her gardens have won awards and was featured on the CNC nature plant garden tour.”

Learn how to garden a new way, in gravel!

What You’ll Learn:

Derek Jarman, Beth Chatto, and Jeff Epping, just to name a few, show us how to create breathtaking gardens in gravel.

What You Leave With:

Tricky spots, contaminated soils, urban settings, low budgets, or simply a desire to garden a different way, gravel gardening is a beautiful, pollinator friendly way to garden. History of gravel gardens, review beautiful gardens to inspire, and discuss construction, planting, and care of your new gravel garden.
