Ghostly Luminaries!

Class:

Just in time for spooky season, make your own hand-built ceramic ghost luminary! Walk through all the steps to complete your own custom ceramic ghost, then pick out a glaze, and pick up your finished, fired spooky friend in time for Halloween!

What You’ll Learn:

During this class, students will learn the fundamental steps to create their own ceramic ghost.

These include :

  • Students will learn the pinch pot method, how to shape and fold the clay to resemble ghosts billowing in the wind, and learn how to use various shape hole punchers to create luminaries to let light through their ghosts

What You’ll Leave With:

By the end of this class, students will have learned some introductory skills to hand building and will have 1-2 of their own ghost luminaries!

(Student work will go through two firings after the workshop has been completed. Baker Hunt will provide glaze options for the students and will glaze their work for them. Students will be contacted, via email, once their pottery has finished firing and is available for pick up on a later date.)

Beginner Wheel Throwing
Wednesdays, 9:00 am

Class:

Experience of magic of working in clay as you create and glaze functional, decorative, and sculptural forms using a pottery wheel. Students will develop a basic understanding of how to operate a pottery wheel as they work on teacher-led projects and practices.

What You’ll Learn:

In a small group learning environment, you will learn step-by-step instructions of the fundamentals of how to use a potter’s wheel such as wedging, centering, pulling, shaping, and finishing. With these skills, you will learn how to throw the three basic forms on a potter’s wheel: a cylinder, a bowl, and a simple vase form. You will also learn about basic glazing finishing skills for completing your pottery.

***(Students are required to follow the instructor’s curriculum. Only work produced from that curriculum will be fired.)***

What You’ll Leave With:

Depending on the disciplinary skill of the student, a student may leave with 7-10 completed pieces of pottery from 25lb bag of clay.

(Students will submit glazed works for final firing on the last class of the session. Students will be contacted, via email, once their pottery has finished firing and available for pick up on a later date)

Learn to make your very own ceramic bobblehead! In this class students will learn the steps to design and hand build their very own bobble head out of clay.

Tolkien Tankards
Saturday, October 31st

Come to Baker Hunt for an adventurous evening as we travel to Middle Earth and kick up our feet in the best two taverns west of Bree, The Prancing Pony and the Green Dragon!

We will explore the magic of clay as we create a custom handbuilt tankard depicting images of either the ‘Prancing Pony’ or the ‘Green Dragon. ‘ After crafting your customized tankard, you will be able to select a finishing glaze of your choice.

AND REMEMBER…

“You can drink your fancy ales,
You can drink them by the flagon,
But the only brew for the brave and true…
..Comes from the Green Dragon!”

What You’ll Learn:

Students will learn the fundamental skills needed to create their own tankard, such as:

  • Slab building
  • Slipping and scoring for attachments
  • Basic finishing techniques
  • Simple surface decoration

10 to 15 year-olds must be accompanied by a paying adult.

Explore the magic of clay as you learn the uniquely expressive qualities of clay to create pottery and sculpture.  Students will create beautifully glazed and fired ceramic ware as they work on teacher-led projects and practices. Come join us and create your next favorite fictional piece or your new favorite piece of home décor.

What You’ll Learn:

In a group learning environment, you will learn step-by-step instructions to develop various hand-building techniques including pinching, coiling, slab-making., unique shaping techniques, and surface manipulation to create functional and/or sculptural ceramic projects designed by the instructor.

Create challenging functional, decorative, and sculptural forms using the pottery wheel. Develop various throwing techniques introduced from previous beginning-level throwing classes.

What You’ll Learn:

In a small group learning environment, you will learn step-by-step instructions to improve existing wheel-throwing skills, create more advanced forms, and explore advanced glazing methods by working on teacher-led projects and practices. With these new skills, you will learn how to throw the three basic forms on a potter’s wheel such as: plates, lidded forms, throwing larger forms, more unique shaping techniques, and surface manipulation.

We prefer that students have taken a couple beginner wheel-throwing classes before registering for this class.

What You’ll Leave With:

Beginner Sculpture: Fantasy Creatures

Unicorns, dragons, phoenixes, oh my! In this beginner friendly Animal Sculpture class, students will learn how to use real life reference images of animals to sculpt and create their favorite fantasy creatures! Students can expect to take home 1-2 finished sculptures depending on size and complexity. 

Students will learn Elements of Design like line, form, and shape to learn how to sculpt with clay, using reference images of animals like horses, lizards, snakes, birds, and much more. Students will also learn how to use underglaze and glaze to bring their fantasy creatures to life once done sculpting!

What You’ll Learn:

In a group learning environment, you will learn step-by-step instructions of the fundamentals of basic handbuilding construction techniques such as: pinch pots, slabs, coil, and additive and subtractive processes. Students will work from high-quality life photos to enhance their skills of observation to translate, line, angle, shape, and form into three-dimensional sculptures. You will also learn sculptural techniques such as carving, texturing, dynamic and in-the-round posing, balance, and positive and negative space compositions as you create your favorite mammals.  Along with this, students will also learn about basic glazing finishing skills for completing your ceramic sculptures.

What You’ll Leave With:

Depending on the disciplinary skill of the student, they will leave with 1-3 completed pieces by the end of this class.
