Preparing for Camp
What should my child bring with them to camp?
Art Camps: Children should be sent to camp with a water bottle, snack, and lunch. We will provide popsicles as a snack but will not have other food provided.
What should my child wear?
Art Camps: Students should wear clothes that are comfortable and that don’t mind getting dirty. Students are often provided with aprons or coverings, but due to the nature of projects they may still get materials on them. All students should wear closed toe-shoes to prevent injury or tripping hazards.
Kitchen Camps: Students must wear closed toe shoes. Crocs, slides, and sandals are NOT permitted. Gym shoes or tennis shoes are mandatory. Additionally, to help prevent accidents, students should wear comfortable clothes, but not loose fitting or baggy.
How does drop off and pick up work?
Guardians must escort children to and from cars through the parking lot. We will not let children walk through parking lots alone to get to vehicles or come to camp. A staff member must see a child walk with their guardian (or parent approved driver) before letting them leave.
What do I do if I am running late to drop off?
If you are running late, please call our office at 859-431-0020 with an estimated drop off time. Students will be escorted to their camp classroom by a staff member after being dropped off.
Do you provide before and/or after care?
Yes! Baker Hunt now offers before AND after care for all of our art camps. Guardians will be able to purchase this with an additional fee when purchasing a camp.
Policies and Rules
What is your bullying policy?
We have a zero-tolerance bullying policy. If a child is bullying other children, especially after conversations have been had with them and/or their guardian, the guardian will be called to pick up the child and they will not be allowed to return to camp.
What is your behavior policy?
We do our best to be accommodating to all our students, but we will not tolerate behavior that negatively impacts our other students’ experiences. This may include but is not limited to actions that endanger others or themselves, any language that may be mean-spirited or considered bullying, language/conversations that are inappropriate, or consistent disruptions to class instruction.
If a student cannot follow rules after having conversations with them and/or their guardian(s), they may be asked to leave the camp they were attending.
What is the policy on late pickup? Is there a fee for late pickup?
While we don’t have a specific fee for late pickup, we do have aftercare. If a guardian is late by ten minutes or more, their child will automatically be enrolled in our aftercare program for that day. This program will add an additional ten dollars to that child’s camp fees.
What if my child misses a day of camp? Will there be a partial refund or makeup class?
No, we do not provide refunds or makeup classes if a child must miss a day of summer camp.
Health and Safety
What is your policy on kids with medication needs at lunch?
Students who may need medication during the duration of their camp must bring it in an enclosed container that is properly labeled, sealed, and has written instructions. Parents must leave this with office staff, who will ensure that the child takes it and uses it properly. Baker Hunt does not have a nurse on staff, so the children must be able to administer their own medication.
Are the classrooms handicap accessible?
While a lot of our spaces are handicap accessible, not all of them are due to our buildings being historical. Camps located in our kitchen, Scudder house, and ceramics studios are all handicap accessible, but our studio 2 location is currently not. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact us via email at [email protected] or via phone at 859-431-0020.
What if my child has an allergy?
If your child has an allergy, please be sure to list it under the category titled “allergies” when signing them up for camp. We will take note of it and accommodate them if possible. If it is not something we can accommodate, we will promptly reach out to you.
Will my child always have an adult with them?
All children will have a teacher, camp counselor, or staff member with them at all times.
Can I stay with my child in class?
Guardians may walk students to their classroom but may not stay unless it is a family class. This means a class that specifically states that class purchases include a child and adult seat.
Scheduling and Accommodations
What is the schedule for a typical day at camp?
Students will have at minimum three breaks during their day. This will include time to play, have a snack, and get active outside (weather permitting). If there are weather advisories, children will be directed to one of our larger indoor locations to have time to be active and play. Outside of these breaks, students are given guided art projects and games throughout the course of their camp experience.
Do they do a variety of activities during the day (is there any physical activity)?
Yes. Students will have at minimum three opportunities during breaks and lunches to get out of the classroom and play. We will have games and activities to offer them during this time.
Will there be an art show for art summer camps?
Yes! For each art camp we will have a timeslot available for the last day of camp where parents and guardians can come a little early and see all of the wonderful work our campers have made.
Educators and General Questions
What Kind of qualifications do your camp teachers have?
Our teachers are professionals in the medium that they are teaching. Each of our teachers go through an interview process where we evaluate their work, experiences, expertise, and go through an extensive background check to ensure the highest quality of education and safety for all our students.
How long do you keep children’s projects after camp? (when do they need to be picked up?)
For our camps that don’t include ceramics, student work will be kept for up to one month after a camp has been completed. For our clay camps, student work will be held up to three months after pickup notifications have been sent.
Adult and Family Classes
How to Prepare for Class
What materials should I bring to class? Are any materials required?
Materials needed for classes will be listed under a class’s description as well as if materials are provided. A teacher may have recommended or preferred materials for the students outside of what we provide, but these are optional and not necessary for the course. Materials that are required and not provided will be listed in a classes description.
What should I wear?
When picking clothes for a class, please consider the nature of the materials you are using. Bring clothes or an apron that you don’t mind getting a little dirty and please, be sure to wear appropriate footwear to classes. This especially applies to our Kitchen classes (which require closed toe shoes) and our glass or mosaics classes.
How will I know where to go?
Once a student arrives for the first day of their class, they will be greeted by a staff member and directed on which building and/or classroom they will need to go to.
Can I bring food into classrooms?
No. We do not allow food into rooms that are actively being used for classes as a means of keeps spaces clean and keeping students healthy. Students may bring a drink to class, though they should have them in containers that can be properly closed to prevent spills or any materials getting into them.

Do you have a parking lot? If so, is there handicap parking available?
Yes! Baker Hunt has a parking lot with entrances located on East 7th Street. There is limited space for this though, so students will need to prepare to look for parking elsewhere if their class takes place on a particularly busy night. There is street parking around our campus as well as parking garages.
We do have handicap parking, but it is also limited. If you are concerned about this, please contact us via email at [email protected] or via phone at 859-431-0020 and we will do our best to accommodate you.
What is your policy on illnesses?
If you have been sick within 24 hours of a class starting, please do not attend class until you are over said sickness. It is a health-code violation in our kitchen, and we cannot risk our other students’ health and safety.
