Explore the Ancient World

Class Description:

In this class for 9-12 year olds, students will explore ancient cultures through their art! Learn about the myths that inspired Greek pottery, the mosaics of the Roman baths, the terracotta army of Qin dynasty China, and the elaborate masks of the ancient Mayans. Each class is equal parts history lesson and art project!

What You’ll Learn:

Students will learn about the ancient world and how art is used by archeologists to understand the past.

What You’ll Leave With:

Students will leave with four unique art projects inspired by four different ancient civilizations: the Greeks, the Romans, Qin dynasty China, and the Mayans.

Teen Open Studio
Thursday, 6:00 pm
June 4 – June 25 | Ages 13-17

Class Description:

Express yourself and let your creativity run free! In this open studio, students can explore the art media and subjects of their choice with as much (or as little) teacher guidance as is desired/needed. If you are putting together a portfolio for an application of any kind, this class can help in that as well! Materials available include pencils, colored pencils, pastels, art markers, watercolor, acrylic, collage, air-dry clay, and more! Optional prompts and demos will vary week to week for inspiration, such as a still-life set-up, art magazines/books, and graphic novels/comic books.

Students may keep a portfolio at the studio for ongoing projects.

What You’ll Learn:

  • Variety of art techniques according to your interests
  • Artistic problem-solving
  • Self-directed creativity

What You’ll Leave With:

Creative, exciting projects created with a variety of materials

T-shirt Yarn Tote Bags
Monday, 6:00pm
July 6 – July 27 | Ages 13-17

Class Description:

This four-week class invites teens to explore sustainability and creativity by transforming old T-shirts into functional, handmade tote bags. Combining upcycling with beginner-friendly crochet, students will learn how to turn everyday clothing into something both practical and uniquely their own.

What You’ll Learn:

In the first week, participants will learn how to cut and prepare T-shirts into continuous “yarn,” exploring different methods and textures. Week two introduces the basics of crochet, including foundational stitches and how to start a project. In week three, students will begin constructing their tote bags, building confidence as they see their work take shape. By the final week, they’ll complete their bags, add finishing touches like handles or decorative elements, and troubleshoot any remaining steps.

What You’ll Leave With:

By the end, each teen will leave with a durable, eco-friendly tote bag and the knowledge to continue creating on their own.

Youth Beginning Watercolor

Class Description:

Learn the fundamental materials and techniques of watercolor painting in this 4-week session. Each session will include inspiration from famous watercolor artists, teacher demonstrations and a fun mini project to practice new techniques.

What You’ll Learn:

We will learn techniques such as wet-on-wet, dry-brushing, edge control, gradients and adding mixed media to create expressive paintings. We will also learn to use materials to layer, mix colors and create dynamic effects.

What You’ll Leave With:

You will come away with a toolbox of techniques to practice on your own, color and technique charts, and at least 3 mini watercolor projects

Mini Junk Journals & Collage
Monday, 6:00pm
June 1 – June 22 | Ages 11-15

Class Description:

This hands-on class invites teens to explore creativity, storytelling, and sustainability through the art of mini junk journaling. Using collage techniques and a mix of found and recycled materials (like old magazines, packaging, fabric scraps, and handwritten notes) students will design their own one-of-a-kind miniature journals.

What You’ll Learn:

Participants will learn how to layer textures, combine images and words, and experiment with composition to create visually rich, expressive pages. Along the way, we’ll inspire with creative prompts to spark ideas, helping each student turn everyday “junk” into meaningful art

What You’ll Leave With:

By the end, each teen will leave with a personalized mini journal and the skills to keep creating at home.

World Religions: Spirituality, Art, & Place
Wednesday, 6:00pm
June 3 – June 24 | Ages 13-17

***No Classes The Week Of June 29th – July 5th***

Class Description:

In this 4-week class for 13-17 year olds, we will explore the foundations of four religions and their interconnected relationships between art and sacred spaces. Each class will include a lesson about the religion and its relationship to place, and then create space for students to create art inspired by the tradition.

What You’ll Learn:

Learn about Hinduism’s sacred rivers, Buddhism’s bodhi trees, the torii gates of Japan’s Shinto shrines, and the holy mountains of the Navajo.

What You’ll Leave With:

Students will leave with art pieces (or the beginnings of art pieces) inspired by the four sacred places.
