DESCRIPTION:Hip Hop and the Creative Economy\nThis immersive exploration traces how Hip Hop transformed from a localized South Bronx subculture into a global, multi-billion-dollar economic engine. Together, we will embark on a comprehensive historical journey, tracing the movement from its roots in the early 1970s—marked by block parties, rec room jams, and the core elements of DJing, MCing, breakdancing, and graffiti—to its contemporary status as a dominant driver of mainstream global culture. Through this narrative, we will highlight how resourcefulness, community storytelling, and raw creative energy laid the foundation for an ecosystem that would eventually disrupt and define the creative economy.\nWe will also address the cross-cultural resonance and global democratization of Hip Hop culture. Beyond its financial impact, Hip Hop has provided a universal framework for self-expression, identity, and social commentary for diverse communities worldwide. Participants will learn how local populations across continents have adapted Hip Hop’s foundational elements to reflect their unique sociopolitical realities, linguistic nuances, and artistic traditions. Ultimately, this session provides attendees with a deeper understanding of Hip Hop not merely as a music genre, but as a dynamic cultural catalyst that continues to empower creators, spark economic innovation, and foster meaningful connection across global boundaries.\nSEATING IS LIMITED! Registration is required.\nNovember 5th| 6:00 pm (Doors open at 5:45 pm)\n \nSpeaker: Damian Hoskins, Executive Director of Elementz Cincinnati ( https://www.elementz.org/ )\nAbout Damian;\nDamian Hoskins is the Executive Director of Elementz Hip Hop Cultural Art Center in Cincinnati. Through the preservation, protection, and advancement of Hip Hop as art, culture and a global creative force, Elementz fosters talent, ignites potential, and inspires possibilities for youth ages 8-20. Damian is also a professor of Hip Hop Studies at the University of Cincinnati’s College Conservatory of Music.  Previously, Hoskins was Vice President of Arts Impact at ArtsWave, the leading fundraiser and promoter of the arts in Greater Cincinnati, where he managed a multi-million-dollar grant-making process for the region’s vibrant arts sector. Damian is also a woodworker, painter, graphic designer, and branding strategist for organizations such as the Preschool Promise, The Urban League, Black Arts Speaks, and the Strive Partnership.\nHoskins holds a bachelor’s degree in English education from Central State University and a Master’s Degree from the Art Academy of Cincinnati.\nThese lectures are free to the community thanks to a generous grant from the R.C.Durr Foundation\n
