SUMMARY:Recording in Stitching
Thursday, 6:00 p.m.
October 22 – November 12
Ages 16-99+
DESCRIPTION:Class:\nHand embroidery is often used to make a record of one’s observations: the temperature, number of bees in the garden, interactions with others, pages read in a book, one’s mood- what that person finds most important to them. This 30-day stitching practice guides students to focus on something of particular importance to them, something worth recording in stitches. It is a mediative practice, a study in daily observations, permission to set aside each day just for oneself to observe and stitch, and a social/community experience.\nIn this month-long stitches practice we will cultivate a daily practice of taking time to reflect, observe, and record what is important to you. We will also learn new ways to stitch, how to work in found objects, and express ourselves with hand embroidery. This class is meditative, part social, and part creative exercise.\nWhat You’ll Learn:\nWe will learn a variety of stitches to use to record something of note and importance to each student. We will learn to slow our pace, be observant and take the time to record, each day, what we observe, feel or experience. Each day the students stitch to record their observations, a stitched diary if you will. At the end of the month, each student will have a stitched record of what they observed, felt, or experienced- a story in stitches. Students will learn to gift themselves time to simply be. How many of can say we take enough time for ourselves? Not Many! We will learn ways to record our observations with our stitches.\nWhat You’ll Leave With:\nA thirty day stitched journal, if you will, a record of observations for a month created with hand stiches that tells the story of what we learned with our observations and a new practice of giving ourselves permission to take time for ourselves. Your personal story in stitches, and a new practice of setting time aside, each day, to stitch and be present.\nA thirty day record,\nInstructor: Jennifer Smith ( https://www.bakerhunt.org/jennifer-smith/ )\n\nSupply List\nAll Supplies included.\n\n
